Introduction
Tectonic Plates are located on the earths outer shell and are divided into several plates that glide over the mantle, which is the rocky inner layer above the core. Among these plates is The Caribbean Plate. The Caribbean Plate is mostly a oceanic tectonic plate that underlines Central America and the Caribbean Sea of the north coast of South America. This tectonic plate borders four other plates which include the Cocos Plate, Nazca Plate, South American Plate and the North American Plate. Threw the use of Google Earth, and all of it's useful tools, such as the add path tool used to get an elevation profile, and the ruler tool; used to determine rate of sea floor spreading, I was able to include many of the images shown through out.
The Caribbean Plate, being a minor plate, is a relatively small plate compared to some of the other tectonic plates, but although the size maybe small there is not much lack of seismic activity. Although primarily composed of convergent boundaries, The Caribbean Plate also includes divergent and transform boundaries.

Among many other islands located in the Caribbean Plate such as Cuba and Jamaica; Puerto Rico and Hispaniola ( containing two separate countries, Haiti and Dominican Republic) are where most of my family members live. This is why I found this particular tectonic plate fascinating. I feel it is important to get a better understanding of where my family lives, what makes up these islands, and what possible effects, Seismic activity could possibly have on them.
